STILL ON BARRISTER
The following is a beautiful piece written by One Debo Alder in honor of Late Chief Sikiru Ayinde Barrister. May his soul rest in perfect peace. Read on...
The news of the death of Dr. Sikiru Ayinde Barrister (Alhaji Agba) in London hospital this morning was shocking. Barrister lost the... battle to the cold hands of death after a prolonged illness.
While commiserating with the entire music industry on this great loss of an icon, I also want to remember that Sikiru Ayinde Barrister actually maintained a very cordial and personal relationship with our dear Chief Commander Ebenezer Obey apart from the fact that he shared the same musical philosophy with Ebenezer Obey.
Ebenezer Obey in fact contributed in no small way to the musical growth of Dr. Sikiru Ayinde Barrister and Barrister never shied away from acknowledging this fact in most of his songs. If there is any musician barrister respected a lot, it is Chief Commander Ebenezer Obey. Obey is actually Barrister’s adviser. Barrister noted in his 1980 album “oke agba” ;
"Chief Ebenezer obey ni adviser mi, a kii banii rin kama mole eni, oko Juliana mi jojolo, Juliana mi director omo olola oo. Obey omo lakeesin, obey omo lakeesinn….”
When no one was able to settle the racour between Ayinde Barrister and the then Lagos socialite Bisi Ajala (Ajala travels) in the late 70s and early 80s, Ebenezer Obey was able to convince Barrister and the drift was settled.
In 1980, Sikiru Ayinde Barrister dedicated an album (fuji disco) to Ebenezer Obey in memory of Obey’s father. In the intro of the music, Barrister sings:
“omo bi Ebenezer lo wu mi, Remilekun Olasupo ooo, omo bi Ebenezer lo wu mi, omo to maa gbe ni sin ni” .
This simply means; “I pray for a worthy son like Ebenezer Obey’. Barrister also played at that burial ceremony along with King Sunny Ade and Admiral Dele Abiodun.
On December 16,1989 when Ebenezer Obey threw a societal wedding party for his two eldest sons, Sina and Lanre, Barrister was so prominent in terms of co-ordination and he also performed at the occasion. Few years after, in his 1992 album, Barrister referred to that same wedding ceremony as a yardstick to measure the success of Obey as a musician. He sings;
“sebi e ri Ebenezer obey to se igbeyawo omo e bo se larinrin to, Olasupo Remilekun Aremu omo lakeesin, obey commander ise orin lo fi ni laari, iba e ni mose”.
Adieu Dr. Sikiru Ayinde Barrister!
Meanwhile,
Former Osun State Governor, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola has described the death of Fuji Musician, Alhaji Sikiru Ayinde Barrister as a big loss to the country.
Prince Oyinlola in a statement said the death of the Music giant had left the nation poorer just as it had robbed the entertainment industry of one of its pillars.
IN his condolence MESSAGE to the family of the deceased, Prince Oyinlola prayed God to grant the soul of the dead Aljanah Firdaus.
ALHAJI AGBA DEAD
INALLILAHI-WA-INA-ILAEHI RAJHIUNA
I take this moment to honour one of the fallen greats of the Nigerian entertainment industry - Alhaji (Dr)Sikiru Salami Ayinde Balogun Barrister(Alhaji Agba). An exponent of the traditional Fuji music - maestro, innovator, experimentalist, and music ambassador plenipotentiary. He will be missed by the entire Nigerian entertainment industry and beyond.Sleep on,The Baala Of Lagos.

DID YOU KNOW???????
Did you know that the National Assembly members are probably the highest paid lawmakers in the world? Here's proof.
1. Senate President - David Mark, gets an unbudgeted N250million every four months. This is in addition to his N45, 581 million annual salary.
2. Deputy Sen. Pres. - Ike Ekweremadu, pockets N15million every four months. This is in addition to his N41, 795million annual salary.
3. Other principal officers of the senate like - Majority/minority leaders and their deputies, Chief whip etc collect the sum of N78million every four months.
4. The remaining senators get N45million aside N35, 158 annual salaries.
These facts came to light recently when some Senators who feel shortchanged by the leadership of the Senate cried out that their quarterly unbudgeted allowance of N45million should be increased to N95million.***
These people forget that after all said and done, when we leave this earth, we leave with nothing, absolutely NOTHING! Whatever you can't take with you when you die is not worth dying for. We should think more of the legacy we leave behind. I guess this is what they want us to remember them for.Sad!

STAR IN THE NEWS AGAIN
Afro Juju music creator, Sir Shina Peters, turned 52 years on 30 May. Here, he spoke about his life, music and other things
Q: Congratulations, you are now 52 years old.
A: Yes, thank you.
Q: At 52, what have you gained and lost?
A: I have gained a lot. In terms of wisdom, I am closer to my God, while I am more reserved. Remember I said in one of my songs, Ile nsu, ile n mo, olojo n ka’jo (time waits for no one).
Q: Why don’t you celebrate with your family and friends by throwing a party?
A: When it comes to party throwing, I am not that type, may be because of my job which has taken all my time. More so, I was conferred with the Ambassador of Music, and my friend, Dele Momodu was marking his, so I had to sacrifice mine for him.
Q: A lot of people have been complaining that you are not very visible lately, what have you been doing?
A: I have been very busy because I travel a lot. I hardly stay in Nigeria. I travel virtually every month. Recently, when I returned from London, I travelled to Dubai with Otunba Gani Adams for his birthday. From there, I went to South Africa and now, I am planning to go to Spain. In fact, I cut a trip to London short to honour Otunba Mike Adenuga during his daughter’s wedding because at this age, we should go all out to expose our culture to the world.
Q: From here, what next?
A: I will be travelling again.
Q: By creating Afro Juju music, your critics are of the opinion that you have done more harm to the music genre than good. They believe that you allow those who cannot play any musical instrument to play juju music. What is your comment on this?
A: Well, you cannot satisfy the world. I have delivered the message God gave to me to the world by creating Afro Juju music because I have created joy, happiness and job for many people. In fact, through my music, I have been able to elevate some of my colleagues. As a journalist, don’t you know that you are saving souls through your medium? So the most important thing is to do something that will save souls which I have done by creating Afro Juju music.
Q: At 52, what other plans do you have?
A: I can assure you that my God has so many plans for me.
Q: Are you working on an album for now?
A: Yes, but it is not an album per se, it is a project because it will involve a lot of artistes from a genre of music, including foreign artistes.
Q: How many of them have you contacted?
A: I don’t want to let the cat of the bag yet.
Q: How soon are you embarking on this project?
A: Very soon.
Q: Some people are of the opinion that Juju music is on the decline, how true is this?
A: Who told you that?
Q: I am asking you a question. Is it true or not?
A: Juju is still very much around. King Sunny Ade is still on stage, likewise Admiral Dele Abiodun, myself and even Commander Ebenezer Obey, who returned to the stage lately. Tell me, what do Fuji artistes play? Juju, of course. If not, why are they using guitar, keyboard and other western musical equipment in their music?
Q: What was on your mind when you created Afro Juju music?
A: For all I know, Afro Juju is not my making because God perfected it and I am just like a tool in His hand. Afro Juju is more than what you think of it.
Q: How did you create it?
A: I don’t know.
Q: Is it spiritual?
A: Yes, very, very spiritual
Q: When and how did it happen?
A: It happened, so don’t let me take the credit from God, who only used SSP to deliver it. It is not by my power or my making.
Q: Did you consult a prophet or jujuman before creating the music?
A: No, I am not into anything of such. mi o soogun, bee ni mi o sin ’gbere (I am not into rituals or have any stuff like that).
Q: Ebenezer Obey recently returned to the scene after going into gospel music, so how do you feel?
A: He has been singing gospel from day one, so coming back is no big deal.
Q: Are you also going into gospel music soon?
A: I have always been singing gospel songs because I started my career in the Cherubim and Seraphim church.
Q: You left home at age 10 to play music and now, Sir Shina Peters, if you have to come back to the world, would you live the same life all over?
A: That is a million-dollar question. I didn’t determine my life, it’s God that determines what I do.Q: Any regrets so far?
A: Who am I to regret the work of God? I have no regrets. So far, so good.
Q: Now you are renovating your house in Iju, why did you change the colour from the usual white and red?
A: The world is dynamic and the whole world needs change. I am an artiste, artistes don’t rest, we change everyday.
Q: You are not growing any younger, how do you see SSP in the next ten years?
A: God spares my life, I won’t die young and I will continue to play good music.
Q: You started as Sir Shina Adewale, that is, you and Segun Adewale. Can you still team up with someone to form a band?
A: No, the lesson I have learnt is what is yours is yours. I will like to say this thing is mine.
Q: What was your experience with Segun Adewale?
A: Nice one.
Q: What happened to the album you released then on Mut-Mukson Records label?
A: I still see it on the streets, but I am too busy to go and fight for my right now.
Q: What about those on Sonny Music label?
A: They are still with them. Now, they are Master Sound, but I have asked my lawyers to write the company for negotiation because the albums are still selling.
Q: Did you make money from the sale of those albums?
A: Yes, I am very lucky when it comes to that. I am very, very lucky.
Lucky STAR he is.He is my music IDOL.Infact i love everything about him.Happy Birthday,Starrr

Emeka Ike recently emerged the first winner of Gulder Ultimate Search, Celebrity Showdown. In this chat with NONYE BEN-NWANKWO, he talks about life in the jungle and his alleged romance with Muma Gee.
Would you attribute your victory at the last Gulder Ultimate Search, Celebrity Showdown to luck?
Whatever comes to us can never be by luck. If you believe that anything that comes your way is by luck, you are taking away God’s glory and you are giving it to an unknown feature. While we were on top of water, I was on the boat. If you noticed, I was the last man on the boat. That fear factor came to me that I had relegated myself to the background by sitting at the back. There and then, another voice came to me and said, ‘The first shall be the last and the last shall be the first.’ I did not just stop there. I had to know if I was the one speaking or if it was God. I told God that if He was the one speaking to me, I would make a contact with Him to tell him I heard Him. I scooped water from the river and told God that I had heard him.
Was that why you didn’t give up even when it looked like the others were ahead of you in the final task?
I didn’t give up. God and the Devil give us messages, but you have to choose the person you listen to. The spirit of frustration came into me and told me that the others were ahead of me, but I didn’t listen. The other voice reminded me that the others hadn’t found the treasure yet. I had to keep digging. It taught me a lesson. Even when you are failing, keep thinking. It is not over until it is over. I kept digging and digging. My mind told me that I was free to dig anywhere. The first port of call was Darey’s point. I used my head to make some calculations and in less than five scoops, I was able to touch the treasure. My mind was in all I was doing.
You also said it was your intellect that got you the prize. Are you saying the others are not intelligent?
At every point in any human being’s life, you need to be on top of your game. We could be 10 intelligent people in a room, but all of us have to radiate on different frequencies. You may not give out the right frequency when you are required to. That doesn’t make you not to be intelligent. My mind was there as I said earlier. I was studying them. I don’t think they were studying me. I was looking at their attempts and at the same time, I allowed the spirit in me to control me. It was God that told me to go and dig at Darey’s place, and I went there, dug and found the treasure.
A lot of people felt you saw Darey as your biggest rival.
My rival was my best friend, Daddy Showkey. He is a strong man. Darey couldn’t have been my rival. Showkey is stronger. I was following my mind.
Come to think of it, you once said you are not really into endorsement. How come you became a part of GUS?
Don’t say I am not into endorsement. I just don’t endorse. I need to endorse the right product. You don’t have to think that because actors are broke, you can invite them and give each of them N3 million to endorse your product. I will not be a part of that. I feel that good things come to you in God’s time. That is the way I operate. GUS was more like a quest for me. I was committed. It was not about endorsing any brand but winning a contest. That was why I went in for it.
We learnt that you were not meant to be on the list initially; you were called upon on the day of the opening and you jumped at the offer.
That is a lie. They had called me many times before then but I told them I wasn’t interested. I have never liked this endorsement deal as you already know. I just didn’t feel like being a part of it. But later, I came back one day and met my bags packed. I asked my wife what the problem was and she said she packed it for GUS. She encouraged me to go and be a part of the show because she believed so much in me. That was how I left.
Your relationship with Muma Gee in the jungle brought about a lot of talks and scandals…
I was comfortable with the talks and scandals the ‘relationship’ brought. Showbiz without scandal is not showbiz. The important thing is that it does not take you outside your focus. There was nothing physical between us.
Even the bathroom sex?
There was no kiss. There was no hug and, of course, there was no sex. All the stuff you saw was for the paparazzi and the drama. If you noticed, when the other girls got very angry, that was when Muma got very close to me. We were enjoying the drama. Sometimes you would see us whispering into one another’s ears. You needed to know what we were talking about. The others would shout and say that I should be ashamed of myself; a married man going after another lady. I would whisper into Muma Gee’s ear and say, ‘As if we don’t know what we are doing. They should go ahead and talk’. We would laugh and people would think we are intimate. We knew what we were doing, but people didn’t know what we were doing.
Why did you single out Muma Gee to act with?
I think Muma singled me out. Maybe because she saw me as the right person that could play along with her, who would not think she was leading him on. Muma is mature. In all the brouhaha, she was calm. That is one mark of a mature and enterprising individual. I give her kudos for that. You don’t have to sit with kids who just rant and rave. She was always composed and articulate even when the others were fighting her.
Why did you plan this ‘drama’?
When we got into GUS the first day, we had this alliance between us. We decided to add a bit of drama to the show. We chose to act as lovers in the show. We wanted to bring about some talks. The fact that we didn’t do anything immoral is our justification.
Didn’t you think your wife would mind?
I called my wife and told her what we were planning before the show started. I told her Muma was going to act as my wife in the show. My wife said I should go ahead since she knows me and what I can do. My wife said there is no reality show without love drama. She just encouraged us to play it well. Muma called her guy and told him about our plans as well. We were on national TV. I am the chairman of St. Nicholas College. I am a role model to many people. I will not go on TV and misbehave like it was reported to the extreme in the media. But suggestively, we created drama. All the drama was to keep the house warm and the context flowing.
You even cried when she got evicted. Was that drama too?
A bit of it was drama. I evicted her. That would have been very harsh of me to have claimed to love somebody and still be the instrument of her destruction.
Given the chance, would you date Muma?
If you are talking about the present, I am sorry you are asking a wrong question. I am a married man. I cannot date her.
Would you date her if you were not married?
If I didn’t know her before I got married, I would date her. The reason for dating is to date a woman who is in charge of her world, who is in control of her world, who will look at situations around her and access them and who will think before she acts. That is the kind of woman that attracts me. Maybe I would have dated her if I wasn’t married. But I am married to a very beautiful woman and I don’t have any regrets at all.
Was she the only one that you saw as mature in the jungle?
She was very mature. Weird MC was very mature too. You have to be conscious of your fellow humans. You don’t have to trample on others to get to where you are going. You can make your point without hurting anybody.
The first night at the jungle, you chose to make your bed in the female’s corner, and it caused a lot of issues.
I didn’t choose to make my bed at the ladies’ corner. We got to the jungle and we were supposed to make a tent. If we all made the tent, we couldn’t have eaten that night. Daddy Showkey was the one that told the females to go and cook food while the men would make the tent. No decision had been made about the sleeping arrangement. We were still making the tent before the trouble brewers came with their problem. I had to stand my ground. I had nothing on my mind. It is a reality show. If you choose to make a fool of yourself on national TV, that is your choice.
Were you acting in everything you did in the jungle?
It was just Muma Gee’s own that was for the camera. Every other thing was me. If I don’t want to talk, I will not talk. Before now, a lot of people cast me in bad light. They saw me as arrogant and erratic. I felt GUS would be a platform for me to correct this misinterpretation of the real Emeka Ike. You don’t know me and you go to press and put up lies about me. You don’t know me and you say I am not educated. Who told you? Why don’t you go to YABATECH and ask them who I am? Why don’t you ask Ndudi Elumelu if he schooled with me? People have been passing wrong information about my person. I felt GUS would be a good platform for people to know about me. They would know the Emeka Ike that is not erratic or impulsive.
Did you give Muma a part of your prize?
Let’s leave that question for now. It is our family business and I am not going to discuss it with you.
BIMBO OSHIN-IBIRONKE IN THE NEWS
Bad tale is already spreading like wildfires about the beautiful actress and producer, Bimbo Oshin’s affair with one Ibadan young millionaire called Kunle who is one of the top models making waves in South Africa.
We gathered recently that Bimbo Oshin who is already having a problem with her husband, Dudu Heritage boss, Ola Ibironke, has found something of interest in the life of the handsome dude who is said to be lavishing money and gifts on her. A reliable source who hinted news-hunters of the lovey-dovey between the two lovers also informed that the marriage between the mother of two and the American returnee entertainment impresario, Ola Ibironke a.k.a. Dudu, has since crashed, but they have both agreed to shield it from public so as not to be bashed by the media and some family members who frowned at their marriage years back.
Ola Ibironke, in the twilight of his marriage to Bimbo has been financially incapacitated with family members alleging Bimbo of bringing bad luck to their son’s life. Though, some of Bimbo’s friends have come out to deny this story with a claim that Bimbo and some of her friends recently returned from Canada where they said they went for the wedding of her step-daughter.
Bad luck, abi kinla,it can't be so.I think someone is giving the dog a bad name just to get it hanged. This can,t be true.Marriage should be for money, for broke, till death make part.Bad luck, this is why many people are afraid to get imprisoned, sorry i mean to get married.Could you post views on this?
DEATH THREAT TRAILS KAITA .RED CARD AFTERMATH.
Nigeria midfielder Sani Kaita has received threats to his life after he was sent off in a crucial World Cup Group B match against Greece. Kaita told The German Press Agency dpa on Saturday that he had received death threats, but said he was not bothered by them. "Yes, I have received some threats to my life," he told dpa in a telephone call from the team hotel in Richard's Bay near Durban. "They were sent to my email, but I'm not disturbed about that because as a Muslim, only God decides who lives and who dies." Kaita was dismissed in the 33rd minute in his team's 2-1 defeat to Greece in Bloemfontein on Thursday after he appeared to lunge at defender Vasilis Torosidis with a foot during a tangle by the touchline. "Everything on this earth is in God's hands, whether it is your life or whatever and unless God allows it, no one has the power to kill me," Kaita said. "Only God knows what will happen tomorrow. He holds our destiny. That is what my religion teaches me." Kaita refused to compare his situation with that of Colombia defender Andres Escobar, who was shot dead back home in Colombia in an incident believed linked to his his own goal which allowed hosts United States into the next round of the 1994 World Cup. Colombia's failure to reach the knock-out stage of the World Cup was believed to have caused huge gambling losses to some of the country's powerful drug lords. "I won't liken my case to that of Escobar because everyone has his destiny on this earth," Kaita said. Kaita restated his personal disappointment with the red card incident which turned the match in favour of the Greeks, saying he was not even been booked in a Nigerian shirt before the drama in Bloemfontein. "I can really understand the disappointment following what happened against Greece," he said. "But I'm even more disappointed because since I began representing Nigeria at international level, first with the Under-20 team, then the Olympics and the full international team, I have not been booked much less sent off. This is not in my character. "The coach (Lars Lagerback) told me he was disappointed in me soon after this match, but ever since both the coaches and players have rallied around me, offering me words of encouragement." Kaita, 24, made his international debut in 2005 and has played at three African Cup of Nations tournament. Despite Nigeria's defeats to Argentina and Greece, the Super Eagles will reach the last 16 if they defeat South Korea in their last Group B match in Durban on Tuesday. Kaita, who is automatically suspended for that game, said he remained "very positive both as a person and also as part of the team." He added: "Everyone's focus is on the next game and our prayer is that we win on Tuesday and qualify for the next round. I'm a Nigerian and proud to be one."
BACK IN THE DAYS
FANS ANGRY WITH MERCY JOHNSON
''Movie buffs, especially mothers and wives are currently pissed and thoroughly disappointed with Nollywood actress, Mercy Johnson. And the reason for their seething anger, we reliably gathered has to do with Miss Johnson’s new-found passion of garbing in skimpy attires and deliberate flaunting of her boobs in movies and social engagements.
In fact, one of these women that attended a recent Nollywood wedding with her husband and two children, told us she hurriedly left the venue with her family, the moment Johnson ‘invaded’ with her near-nude attire. “We thought her cleavages will pop out of her skimpy attire that revealed so much from her upper region.
When my family and I could no longer bear the ugly sight, we hurriedly and angrily left the very colourful wedding. My kids that used to see her as their role model immediately discarded her. How can she come to a social event garbed like that, knowing very well that she’s also a role model to several youths in the society, who equally look up to her.
In fact, in my household, we’ve also stopped watching her movies, because of the skimpy things she’s fond of donning.” Also speaking, another angry female fan of the Kogi State-born actress accused Johnson of deliberately donning skimpy attires on/off locations without regard for the womenfolk. “Are Genevieve, Omotola, Monalisa, Oge, Funke and the rest of them not top actresses, did we ever see them donning skimpy attires or overtly flaunting and exposing their boobs, why is Mercy Johnson’s case very different”, asked this bitter lady. Fuming further, she raged: “We are tired of Johnson’s ways of dressing. She’s not representing us well as a role model. Enough of this her boobs flaunting and skimpy attires, it’s now very disgusting and debasing us.”
Meanwhile, a recent sms from another pissed fan, pleaded with the controversial and still single thespian to desist from disgracing the womenfolk with her new-found passion for skimpy wears. “We are tired of Mercy Johnson’s new dress sense. If you watch her in movies, meet her at events or even buy papers to read, you keep seeing her flaunting her boobs and deliberately revealing parts of her body. We are tired of her insulting our sensibilities. Is she the only Nigerian actress?
Well, my family and I have started boycotting any film that features her, in our home. My kids are even complaining and that makes it more disturbing. Please, help us beg her to stop now. If she wants to go nude, let her do that within the confines of her bedroom, and not in movies, social events or the pages of magazines. Some of us have husbands and we do not want them to begin to think otherwise because of Mercy Johnson. Enough of this her madness,” lambasted this mother, who incidentally reached us from Johnson’s State, Kogi. A mischievous guy, who called from London, pointed out that Johnson might end up baring -it-all in movies with the way she is currently going. “I will be happy to see Mercy bare-it-all in movies, since that is what she enjoys doing these days in movies and real life.”
This piece was culled from the sun newspapers.I feel Miss Johnson should be adviced.Abi, wetin you think.Infact this is too 'temptingcios' and it can even tempt the 'most 'holyiest' of men
